State Grant Funding Currently Paused
But Your Information Definitely Still Matters
While the Washington State Legislature chose not to renew funding for the Outdoor Learning Grant Program for the 2025–27 biennium, we are not shutting the door on outdoor school. In fact, your information is more important than ever.
If you were planning to apply for funding or had hoped to continue receiving support for outdoor learning experiences, please still fill out the form below.
Why? Because your data helps us:
Track how many schools and students are impacted by the loss of state funding
Advocate for renewed support in future legislative sessions
Identify geographic, demographic, and programmatic gaps in outdoor learning access
Show the continued demand and need for outdoor education in Washington State
Whether your program has run for decades or just began last year, your story counts. Every entry we receive helps build the case for long-term, sustainable support for outdoor learning across our state.
Even without state grant dollars this cycle, you can still make outdoor school happen through:
Local district and levy funding
Community fundraising and partnerships
Title I and Title IV federal education resources
Sliding scale payment models
Creative program design with outdoor providers
Keep the momentum going
Outdoor learning doesn’t stop here—and neither do we. Help us demonstrate what’s at stake and where we go next.

Outdoor Schools Washington, a division of the Washington School Principals' Education Foundation (WSPEF), is a proud partner with the WA Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) on Overnight Outdoor Educational Experiences (Outdoor School). We are a financial support organization, working to provide funding support back to schools and districts that incur costs related to taking students to these experiences. We hope to fund as many schools with as much funding as possible
